FAQs
Q1: Does pet mince need to be cooked?
Is raw or cooked meat better? Puppies and older dogs have weaker guts for digesting raw meat, so can have gastric upsets. Kim recommends cooking the meat into a stew for easier digestion. As a puppy ages, you can cook the meat less and less as their guts are designed for eating raw meat.
Q2: Defrosting Instructions (Raw Products)
This product contains raw meat – Use appropriate hygiene measures when handling and storing. Handle in the same way that you would any raw meat product at home.
Use a Separate preparation area, clean and disinfect the area and utensils before and after preparing raw pet food. Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after preparing raw pet food.
Keep frozen until ready to use, only defrost the required amount. Thaw in a pet bowl or sealed container before serving. Remove product from contents from packaging. Use a sharp knife and carefully cut alongside the length of the packaging, once defrosted dispose of remaining product.
DO NOT REFREEZE. Feed within the same day and then dispose of any left overs meat.
Mix thaw juice into food using a clean spoon. Do not discard the thaw juice as it can lead to a nutritional imbalance.
Discard any uneaten as soon as practically possible.
Q3: How Much Do I Feed?
Cats: usually 100g to 200g a day divided into two meals. 250g to 300g for a fully-grown Maine Coon!
Puppies: 4%-8% of their ideal weight, divided into 3 meals a day. Drop this to 3%-6% if your pup is a giant breed (like bullmastiffs, Great Danes, etc – chat to us if you’re unsure).
Adult Dogs (Tiny to Large breeds): 2%-4% of their ideal weight per day, divided into 2 meals.
Adult Dogs (Giant breeds): 1%-3% of their ideal weight per day, divided into 2 meals
Old Dogs (all breeds): 1%-3% of their ideal weight per day, divided into 2 meals
Q4: Is venison mince good for dogs?
Wild venison mince is a great option for dogs and cats with sensitive skin or gut issues as it exclusively contains venison as a protein source. It is not intended to be a complete diet for your pet: For dogs, feed alongside a range of our other mixes for variety, green tripe, and raw meaty bones.
Q5: Is venison easy on a dog’s stomach?
Venison is a highly digestible meat, which means that your dog’s body can break it down and absorb the nutrients more easily. This can be especially beneficial for dogs that have sensitive stomachs or digestive issues
